RED EYE

My young (approx. 5 month old) hen is lethargic keeping one eye closed. The yellow iris portion appears red but can't tell for sure.

This sounds like an injury to the eye ball. I'd suggest a soothing eye drop to aid with healing and comfort.

If other chickens aren't bothering her, you could leave her with the flock, but if she is been harassed, she should be isolated until well.

Hopefully treating the eye will help her recover more quickly without getting any worse.
